ECIS event on “Big Data and Innovation”

Our first of a series of ECIS events on the opportunities and challenges of big data and data flows is taking place next week. We’d be pleased if you can join us!

Clifford Chance LLP, Avenue Louise 65, 1050 Brussels
Tuesday 29 November 2016
15:30 to 18:00 followed by a cocktail reception

In this session, we’ll be examining two topical issues – the role of competition law with regard to merger control for “data rich” companies. How do you evaluate the value of data?
The second topic is the ever increasing importance of Artificial Intelligence, what are the opportunities and challenges in Europe with regard to free flow of data and innovation?

The format will be a round table – our experts sharing their views on the topic and in each case a response from industry and European institutions.

  • Thomas VinjeECIS Legal Counsel and Spokesman

Thomas will share his views on data and competition law, including the Commission proposal for new thresholds on mergers.

  • Adrian Weller Senior Research Fellow, University of Cambridge; Faculty Fellow, Alan Turing Institute; Executive Fellow, Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence

Adrian will discuss the innovation potential of Artificial Intelligence, in particular the field of machine learning, the role of data, and the legal implications.
